Children love to copy the big people in their lives doing all sorts of things – especially talking on the phone!
Make a game of pretending to talk to each other on the phone, using any toy or your hands…maybe even a shoe!
Ask questions like you would in a chat with an adult that spark their imagination get a conversation going – ask about their day, their favourite activities or what they had for lunch, leaving space for child to answer. Even before your child can speak in real words, the simple back and forth will still delight them, and build their brain along the way. They’ll learn how to take turns talking, and eventually how to structure their thoughts into sentences.
